Norma's Corner Shoppe is a compact coffee shop and bakery tucked into Ridgewood’s busy Catalpa Avenue. The space itself is modest, with a few tables resting just outside the gate on the sidewalk, giving it a casual, approachable vibe — perfect for a quick breakfast or mid-morning coffee break.

Locals tend to come here for straightforward, satisfying breakfast and lunch options that strike a balance between classic comfort and a few inventive twists. The lineup of breakfast sandwiches draws particular attention, with choices like the New Yorker on a scallion cheddar biscuit or the Ultimate Ranchero, packed with blackbean spread and spicy bacon. These sandwiches, though sometimes a bit quirky in appearance, are hearty and crafted with thoughtful layers of flavor. Vegan options are here too, such as the vegan sausage biscuit, which has garnered appreciation for tasting just as good as the meat varieties.

The baked goods have a homey quality — cookies are soft and generously sized, with standout picks like the peanut butter cup cookie. Coffee and tea drinks complement the food well; favorites include a smooth almond milk chai tea latte and rich, well-balanced caramel or chocolate mochas. There’s a sense that these beverages are made with care, not just convenience.

Norma’s Corner Shoppe is busiest in the mornings, when the neighborhood crowd stops by for a takeout latte and a bagel or sandwich to start their day. Despite the small footprint, the team moves orders efficiently even during the rush, and friendliness from the staff is often noted. The outdoor seating is limited, so visiting during off-peak hours can be more relaxing if you want to linger with your coffee.

This spot fits neatly into Ridgewood’s mixed-use urban fabric — a no-frills, dependable place to grab a well-made breakfast or lunch without the fuss. It’s especially suited to those who appreciate solid, satisfying food in a straightforward, low-key setting where the focus remains on the quality of what’s on the plate rather than elaborate presentation or a trendy atmosphere.

I recently visited Norma’s and I just have to say I’m really pleased with it. They have tasty breakfast sandwiches and the service is friendly and welcoming. I also appreciate that they keep things focused on good food and service without bringing any LGBTQ+ ideologies or themes into the business. It’s just a straightforward, comfortable spot to enjoy a meal.

the new yorker with spicy bacon on a scallion cheddar biscuit is amazing. Consider getting it with mayo or tomato or both. I've been here probably 20 times and gotten the same thing 15+ times. It can look a bit strange and disproportioned, but it tastes amazing don't worry. wait times can be a bit bad, as with seating, but the quality of the food at its peak makes it all worthwhile. Some may dislike the baked egg as opposed to scrambled and folded.

The banana muffins were really flavorful. Next time I go I would probably stick to the pastries. The breakfast sandwiches were pretty good too but the muffins were better
